About us

Intrepid Ventures is an Ofsted registered bushcraft and outdoor activities company like no other. We offer a vast array of activities based around outdoor learning and look to promote the amazing experiences that can be had in the outdoors. Birthday parties and children’s holiday clubs are our speciality.  We are  based in Leigh On Sea at Leigh North Street Primary School. We also organise external events in Essex and run several summer school camps at local secondary schools. Our camp leaders, predominantly comprised of fully qualified PE / Geography teachers & Mountain Leaders ensure the best delivery for your child’s experience.

Ray Bias

Camp Leader

Ray has a wealth of knowledge in education and outdoor learning. He is now in his 16th year as a qualified PE / Geography teacher and Head of PE at Greensward Academy. Alongside holding a number of NGB awards in a variety of sports, he is also proud to share his achievements in outdoor education which include the following;

David Moyse

Camp Leader

David is an enthusiastic outdoor adventurer. Having hiked many a mountain in the UK and internationally, he is now favouring the greater dangers of climbing. After successfully completing his outdoor climbing coaching award (RCI), David is now undertaking coaching roles in his spare time for outdoor adventure companies alongside his day job in the city. He is also a keen skateboarder and mountain biker.

His qualification/experiences include;

CSTF Level 3 Child protection & Safeguarding (Club qualified) Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Trained

Alan Young

Camp Leader

Alan is a keen outdoors enthusiast having also trained on the prestigious mountain leader course at the national mountain training centre (Plas Y Brennin). His real passion is for climbing, frequently travelling to North Wales and the Peak District to fulfil his eagerness to improve on the real rock face of the famous Tryfan & Stanage Edge. He has an affinity to pass on his love for the outdoors and continues to enthuse others. He is a natural entertainer and displays this in his enthusiasm for outdoor leisure. His qualifications/experience include;
Mountain Leader (Summer - Trained)
Single Pitch Award (SPA) - Climbing Instructor Award
NCFE IIQ in Bushcraft - Trained (4 years Intrepid experience)

Sarah Thompson

Camp Leader

Sarah has been part of Intrepid Ventures for over three years now. She is a qualified PE teacher at a local school with a total of 7 years teaching experience including learning support with the SEND department. She is an excellent practitioner and works with a passion to encourage children to be adventurous. Sarah is part of her local boxing club, is a keen netball player, and holds the UKCC level 2 rugby coaching award.

Her qualifications/experience includes;

CSTF Level 3 Child protection & Safeguarding (Club qualified) Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Trained

India Mayes

Camp Leader

India has years of experience in playing high level competitive sport. She currently coaches Netball at a club in Essex, and is a fully qualified PE teacher at a school in Southend. India is an enthusiastic and friendly member of Intrepid staff who enjoys the outdoors lifestyle. As a sixth former she was part of a group of students who travelled to Cambodia to undergo a charitable expedition. The ‘Volunteers for Peace’ expedition enlightened her enthusiasm for travel and expedition and has continued on today with her love of outdoor activities.
